The man in the video partially lost the use of his left arm due to a fall in his son's cellar.  He figured out a way to cut the grass without the use of both arms.  
Busy discussing with his wife when he has to get up,  he nearly misses his chance to stop the lawn mower in time.


Apparently this man was inspired by the cover of Hitchcock's Vertigo more than once.  Say Marieke, what do you think was in the garden first : the painting or the circling lawn mower ? ;)

Porcupines in Love, Given an Improv

Wanneer je in New York bent, ga dan zeker een improv game bekijken.  In deze theatervorm creëren de spelers ter plaatse hun karakters op basis van suggesties van het publiek. Dit leidt vaak tot hilarische toestanden.

Ik woonde een improvisatie bij in de comedy club Chicago City Limits waarbij de spelers de suggestie 'put holes', een gekend probleem in New York, kregen. Toen was Chicago City Limits dichtbij mijn hotel The Bentley Hotel gelegen.

In de onderstaande improvisatie nemen de spelers deel aan een auditie voor een denkbeeldige musical genaamd 'Verliefde stekelvarkens'.  Actrice Suzanne krijgt de suggestie 'P.E.T.A.' (dierenrechtenorganisatie), acteur Toby krijgt de suggestie 'luid en kwaad' en acteur Jared gebruikt de suggestie 'nerd'.  Geniet !

Whenever you are in New York, make sure to see an improv game.  In this discipline players create their characters based on suggestions coming from the audience.  This often leads to hilarious situations.

I attended an improv in the comedy club Chicago City Limits where players were given the suggestion 'put holes', a well-known issue in New York.  Back then Chicago City Limits was located near my hotel The Bentley Hotel.

In the above posted improvisation the players take part in an audition for a made-up musical called 'Porcupines in Love'.  In this game, actress Suzanne is given the suggestion of P.E.T.A. (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals), actor Toby has the suggestion of being loud and angry and actor Jared uses the suggestion of being a nerd.  Enjoy !

Checkered Cabs and Checkered Street Performers

Toen ik negen jaar geleden - is het al zolang ? - foto's nam van voorbijrijdende taxi's op Park Avenue kwam een man uit een gebouw gestapt en riep : 'I'm ready for my close-up now !' (*)
Dat is wat ik nog het meeste mis : New York humor.
